I worked on Sally Hansen's online women's magazine for almost a year while freelancing at Bluehypermedia. I designed it, did HTML, and occasionally re-wrote the copy. I inherited the magazine's somewhat clumsy interface design, horsey toolbar, and unattractive cover. Given these limitations I think I did a good job.
At the time, I no had previous training in design, but was a full-time illustration student at Parson's School of Design. I used Sally Hansen to play, and experiment with type. Most of my ummm.. "really cool" designs never made it into sallyhansen.com. Here are several that did.
I credit sallyhansen.com with teaching me Design, HTML, how to deal with clients, and a lot more. As a result I shed a tear ot two when they eventually re-designed their site.
